A NEW TENT FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

FROM COMPULSION TO ASSENT.

For three decades, education in America has operated under top-down, test-based mandates. The results are now clear: high compliance, stagnant performance, narrowed curriculum, and educators and families walking away from a system that was supposed to serve them. EAR is a coalition of practitioners, researchers, and policy leaders reconstructing accountability around the mutual assent of students, families, and educators — not compulsion.

01–05 / SYSTEM REFRAME

FIVE PILLARS DETERMINING THE SHAPE OF THE SYSTEM.

01
LEGAL SUFFICIENCY
Test scores aren't the only evidence that can support the legal case for education adequacy.
02
COMMUNITY TRUST
Trust is a prerequisite for accountability, not a byproduct of it.
03
CAPACITY
Capacity for authentic assessment builds over time — it isn't all or nothing.
04
COMPARABILITY
We can compare what matters without reducing learning to a single test score.
05
EVIDENCE OF LEARNING
Authentic evidence that's useful, actionable, and responsive to what students, families, and employers actually value.
